INTERVIEW WITH SAHANAZ AHAMMED
CONTRIBUTING POET OF JEREMIAD OF HEARTS
A short and sweet introduction of yourself. *
I am from West Bengal, the land of sweets & various fish cuisine & a lot. I am graduating . A girl blessed with parents, paper & pen. Wanted to become a Doctor but couldn’t because of some physical problems. What I can’t speak I write as I am hell lot shy. Whenever life hits me, I get up thinking that maybe someone is having worse situation than mine. Metal head, amateur photographer & selenophile.
When did you first start writing? *
I started writing from my early school days.
Do you remember what you wrote first? *
“It is okay. You can’t brace yourself up everyday to entertain people.”
It actually came out of depression & most probably after this one I started writing on a daily basis.
How did you get interested in writing? *
I so very much wanted someone to just listen to me.Ma was there for this & she told me to write. I am an introvert. Then comes the feature of maturity : Heartbreak😂, by friends, family members & all. My elder brother too writes. He inspires me.
Who or what has been inspiration? *
People like my elder brother, my friend & my English teachers. Nature & daily life too inspires.
Who are your favorite authors/poets? Why? *
Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Bivuti Bhushan Bandyopadhyay for their talent to describe the then poverty & different social issues of India, specially Bengal; celestial beauty of nature.Their words attract me more than anything. Then comes Sherlock Holmes, Ruskin Bond, William Wordsworth, William Shakespeare, R.K. Narayan & a lot more.
How do you feel when you write? *
I transcend myself into a whole new world. I can smell & breath Peace at that moment.
What are your other hobbies? *
How did you feel when you got your selection mail? *
To be honest, I was dancing. Then I suddenly ran towards the kitchen & told this to my mom. Then told this to my only friend for whom I started to write these days again.
What do you think about poetry? *
For me, poetry holds the world. I can’t really describe how precious it is for me. I’m running out of words.
Do you think rhymes are important for poems? Why so? *
Partially important. Rhymes are like ornaments for a poem. If you can use properly it will make your poem look good & savour a good taste. But all it takes is pure emotion to write a poetry. If you can pour your heart out in a poem without using rhymes & people get it & can relate it then there’s no problem I guess.
A few words for your readers? *
If you can relate then I am satisfied. I wrote this piece when the full moon blew me & my depression away. So I hope you find this soulful. If you like this then I swear no certain thing under the sun can make me happier than this.
What do you wish to say to budding writers? *
Write anything & everything to satisfy yourself first, even if it is not liked by others. After a certain time, people will love you for being you. Trick people with your words. Keep on writing anyway.
