INTERVIEW WITH NASHRAH TANVIR

CONTRIBUTING POET OF JEREMIAD OF HEARTS

A short and sweet introduction of yourself.

Hi, my name’s Nashrah Tanvir and I’m from Haryana, India. I’m in class 11th, in the stream of humanities. I like writing stories and poems, reading novels, surfing internet, and listening songs. My goal is to become a writer.

When did you first start writing?

At the age of 10.

Do you remember what you wrote first?

No

How did you get interested in writing?

As far as I remember I wrote my first story when I was sick and had nothing to do, it was a great comfort and I felt proud to recite it to my family. That was how I found writing things were fun and exciting, like entering a new world and magical place. I started writing more things to improve my writing skills, and it was amusing to express what I feel. That’s how I got interested in writing.

Who or what has been inspiration?

I have always loved telling some sorts of stories, that I decided to try writing them. Later, Enid Blyton’s books inspired me a lot.

Who are your favorite authors/poets? Why?

My favourite writer is Enid Blyton, I love her way of creating adventurous, mysterious, and magical things. My other favourite writers are C.S.Lewis (because of Chronicles of Narnia, I love the chancy adventures in a secret country Narnia) and J.K. Rowling (because I love Harry Potter series, its suppernatural adventures gives a thrilling and exciting feel). My favourite poet is Robert Frost. His simple verses are quite beautiful, meaningful, and gives a felicitous feel.

How do you feel when you write?

Writing stories and poems is lovely as it gives me a feel of creating things that never existed before. I can escape to my own stories and dreamlands.

What are your other hobbies?

My hobbies, besides writing, is reading, playing badminton, drawing (sometimes), listening songs.

How did you feel when you got your selection mail?

It was a joyous moment, difficult to explain in words. I was feeling very happy, partially because I didn’t expect to get selected. I was feeling thankful, blissful, and glad at the same time.

What do you think about poetry?

Poetry is one of the most beautiful things ever happened to the “world.” It’s like connecting dreams and reality with resplendent words. I absolutely love poems.

Do you think rhymes are important for poems? Why so?

I go by the thought- “Poets have the ability to break all the rules and cross over many boundaries.” Rhyming or not is an option in poet’s hand but the main important thing in poems is feeling. Feeling has a higher place than rhymes. Every poem (rhymed or unrhymed) has a beauty of its own.

A few words for your readers?

I hope you enjoyed reading my poems. A writer’s purpose is never completed without his/her readers. I anticipate you had had a great time going through the book.

What do you wish to say to budding writers?

Writing is a delightful artifact. The most important thing is to enjoy and have fun whilst writing. Imagine all sorts of things, from mysteries to fantasies, put them into your head so they can come out. Never stop dreaming, and write daily.
